While we can go to the effort of grouping memes into subcategories of what their intentions are, the reality is that most of them share exactly the same goal: they want you to pay attention to them. It's all about the video, the text, the image that can capture the most eyeballs and ideally inspire you to riff on it yourself. We're not going to say that you have to do that, but here at Memebase we do require you to be appreciative of what is being offered here. Yes, in essence, it is cheap and easy low-rent entertainment, but that has as much of a place in the cultural sphere as auteur cinema in its own special way. The main thing is that they give you the adequate distraction that you are likely seeking, and it can't be denied that no matter what you might think of these memes, they can provide that.
